Lyell Immunopharma — Inclusive Recruiting Assessment

Challenge

Lyell is a bio-tech company that reprograms T cells to cure patients with solid tumors. As with all early-stage companies in life science and other high-growth industries, they are working hard to attract the and retain the diverse talent needed to be an innovative industry leader.

AccelPeople guided the Lyell leadership team through an Inclusive Recruitment Assessment to ensure that all aspects of their talent acquisition efforts are purposefully designed to create an inclusive culture. In an Inclusive Recruitment Assessment, AccelPeople benchmarks against best practices at every step of the talent acquisition cycle.

The Approach

For Lyell, we started with what a candidate would see on public-facing websites and listings to determine the effectiveness and analyze diversity and inclusion across career pages and job descriptions and examined their social media presence and language. We also looked at reviews regarding company strengths and interview processes posted by employees and potential candidates on third-party sites such as Glassdoor.

The next step of the inclusive recruiting assessment was a deep dive into job descriptions to look for gendered language and how well the company expresses a commitment to belonging. And finally, we worked with the Lyell team to understand the processes in place for interviewing and candidate selection, as well as hiring and onboarding of successful candidates.

The Outcome

The resulting report identified where Lyell is doing well with inclusive recruiting and identified opportunities to improve. We provided the Lyell leadership team with actionable recommendations to create a holistic process in hiring that can carry across the organization and helped prioritize how D&I fits into their organizational strategy.
